Choral Introit “Come, My Light”
Come, my Light, and illumine my darkness.
Come, my Light, and revive me from death.
Come, Holy Flame of divine love and burn up
the thorns of my sins.
Kindle my heart with the flame of your love.
Come, my King, to the throne of my heart
and reign there,
And sit at the throne of my heart,
For you alone are my King and my God.
Text: Dimitri of Rostov, Russia (1651-1709); alt. L.C.S.
Tune/arr.: Linda Cable Shute
GREETING &
CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 68:20, 26, 35
Leader: Our God is a God of salvation, and to
God, the Lord, belong deliverances from
death.
People: “Bless God in the great
congregation, the Lord, O you who are of
Israel's fountain!”
Leader: Awesome is God from his sanctuary.
People: The God of Israel—he is the one
who gives power and strength to his
people.
PRAYER OF ADORATION, ASSISTANCE, &
BLESSING
Hymnal #535 " O The Deep, Deep Love of Jesus!”
O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free;
rolling as a mighty ocean
in its fullness over me.
Underneath me, all around me,
is the current of thy love;
leading onward, leading homeward,
to thy glorious rest above.
O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
Spread his praise from shore to shore;
how he loveth, ever loveth,
changeth never, nevermore;
how he watches o'er his loved ones,
died to call them all his own;
how for them he intercedeth,
watcheth o'er them from the throne.
O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
Love of ev'ry love the best:
'tis an ocean vast of blessing,
'tis a haven sweet of rest.
O the deep, deep love of Jesus!
'tis a heav'n of heav'ns to me;
and it lifts me up to glory,
for it lifts me up to thee.
REFLECTION ON GOD’S LAW
from Exodus 20:1-17 & N.T. corollaries, ESV
Leader: You shall love the Lord your God
with all your heart
and with all your soul and with all your mind.
People: This is the great and first
commandment. (Matt. 22: 37-38)
Leader: God spoke all these words, saying, "I
am the Lord your God.
You shall have no other gods before me."
People: For although there may be so-
called "gods" in heaven or on earth…
yet for us there is one God. (1 Cor. 8:5-6)
Leader: You shall not make for yourself an
idol.
People: What agreement has the temple of
God with idols? For we are the temple of
the living God. (2 Cor. 6:16)
Leader: You shall not take the name of the
Lord your God in vain.
People: Let your "yes" be yes and your
"no" be no, so that you may not fall
under condemnation. (Jam. 5:12)
Leader: Remember the Sabbath day, to
keep it holy.
People: There remains a Sabbath rest for
the people of God, for whoever has
entered God's rest has also rested from
his works as God did from his. (Heb. 4:9-
10)
SILENT PRAYER OF CONFESSION
ASSURANCE OF GRACE John 10:27-28
Hymnal #461 “Not What My Hands Have Done”
Not what my hands have done
can save my guilty soul;
not what my toiling flesh has borne
can make my spirit whole.
Not what I feel or do
can give me peace with God;
not all my prayers and sighs and tears
can bear my awful load.
Thy work alone, O Christ,
can ease this weight of sin;
thy blood alone, O Lamb of God,
can give me peace within.
Thy love to me, O God,
not mine, O Lord to thee,
can rid me of this dark unrest,
and set my spirit free.
Thy grace alone, O God,
to me can pardon speak;
thy pow'r alone, O Son of God,
can this sore bondage break.
No other work, save thine,
no other blood will do;
no strength, save that which is divine,
can bear me safely through.
I bless the Christ of God;
I rest on love divine;
and with unfalt'ring lip and heart,
I call this Savior mine.
His cross dispels each doubt;
I bury in his tomb
each thought of unbelief and fear,
each ling'ring shade of gloom.
I praise the God of grace;
I trust his truth and might;
he calls me his, I call him mine,
my God, my joy, my light.
'Tis he who saveth me,
and freely pardon gives;
I love because he loveth me,
I live because he lives.
PRAYER OF THE CHURCH Elder Dean Abbott
Psalm 27:7-10 " O Hear My Voice, Lord”
O hear my voice, LORD, when I cry,
And answer me in grace.
When You said, “Seek my face,” My heart
Said, “LORD, I’ll seek Your face.”
O do not cause Your face to be
Concealed from me, I pray.
Treat me, Your servant, without wrath;
Do not turn me away.
For You have surely been my help,
Do not abandon me;
Do not forsake me now, I pray,
O God who rescues me.
My father and my mother both
May leave me all alone,
But surely then the LORD Himself,
Will take me as His own.

GOD’S WORD PREACHED “Advent 1: The Man
Comes Around” by Pastor Joel E. Wood
Prayer Of Application & The Lord’s Prayer
All: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your
name. Your kingdom come, your will be
done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this
day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors. And
lead us not into temptation, but deliver us
from evil. For yours is the kingdom and the
power and the glory, forever. Amen.
Hymnal #251 “Beneath the Cross of Jesus””
Beneath the cross of Jesus
I fain would take my stand,
the shadow of a mighty Rock
within a weary land;
a home within the wilderness,
a rest upon the way,
from the burning of the noon-tide heat
and the burden of the day.
Upon the cross of Jesus
mine eye at times can see
the very dying form of One
who suffered there for me:
and from my stricken heart with tears
two wonders I confess,
the wonders of redeeming love
and my unworthiness.
I take, O cross, thy shadow
for my abiding place:
I ask no other sunshine than
the sunshine of his face;
content to let the world go by,
to know no gain nor loss;
my sinful self my only shame,
my glory all the cross.
Hymnal p. 845 “Apostles’ Creed”
Minister: Christian, what do you believe?
All: I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our
Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered
under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and
was buried; he descended into hell. The third
day he rose again from the dead. He
ascended into Heaven and is seated at the
right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living
and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic
church, the communion of saints, the
forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the
body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPER

Song “Come To His Kingdom”
Come to His Kingdom, bow down to His
throne,
He is preparing a place for His own,
Those who will thirst not, nor stumble by
night;
He is their fountain, His glory, their light.
Straight is His pathway, and narrow the gate,
Broad is the highway to the fiery fate.
Take not a step to the left nor the right,
Wielding His armor to fight the good fight.
Buckling the belt of the truth you confess,
Bearing the breastplate of His righteousness,
Wearing the gospel of peace at your feet,
Fighting as soldier all foes you shall meet.
Holding the strong shield of faith in its place,
Wearing the helmet of His saving grace,
Fighting the darkness, God’s Word as your
sword,
Stand firm, the battle belongs to the Lord.
Come to the banquet, the Lamb and His
bride,
All pain is gone now, all tears have been
cried.
Join with the angels, His praises to sing,
Come to His kingdom, for there lives the
King!
