Choral Introit.  “Sun of Righteousness”

Praised Thus says God: I do not change; you, My children e’er shall be.

Though you wander and you sin, grace will draw you back to Me.

Turn aside from evil deeds, that your land with justice sing;

See the Sun of Righteousness, risen with healing in His wings.

Come, all you who love the Lord, all who fear and trust God’s name:

Learn the grace that comes with right, treating great and small the same.

Every land will call you blessed, every tongue with praise shall ring;

See the Sun of Righteousness, risen with healing in His wings.

One the Father of us all, one the God who all has made;

Let this knowledge call us back to Covenantal shade.

Leaving evil ways behind, let us all pure offerings bring;

See the Sun of Righteousness, risen with healing in His wings.

From the rising of the sun to the setting of the same,

Great shall be My Name’s renown, loud shall be My mercy’s fame.

Let us now the Father bless, and in Spirit’s grace now sing:

Christ is sun of Righteousness, risen with healing in His wings!

Text: J. Michael Thompson

Tune/Arr.: James E. Clemens

GREETING & CALL TO WORSHIP

Leader: Seek the Lord and his strength;

People: Seek his presence continually!

Leader: Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered,

All: O offspring of Abraham, his servant, children of Jacob, his chosen ones!

PRAYER OF ADORATION, ASSISTANCE, & BLESSING

Hymnal #38   " Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise”

Immortal, invisible, God only wise,

in light inaccessible hid from our eyes,

most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,

almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.

Unresting, unhasting and silent as light,

nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might;

thy justice like mountains high soaring above

thy clouds which are fountains of goodness

and love.

Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,

thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight;

all praise we would render; O help us to see

'tis only the splendor of light hideth thee!

REFLECTION ON GOD’S LAW

People: “You shall not make for yourself a carved image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.”

Leader: “You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and the fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing steadfast love to thousands of those who love me and keep my commandments.”

People: Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

SILENT PRAYER OF CONFESSION

ASSURANCE OF GRACE

Song   “Come Unto Jesus”

When Come unto Jesus all you who are weary.

Come to the mercy seat, fervently kneel.

Here, bring your wounded hearts, broken and needy.

Come unto Jesus, mighty to heal.

Joy of the comfortless, Light for the straying,

Hope of the penitent, Peace in our strife.

Here speaks the Comforter, tenderly saying

My yoke is easy, my burden is light.

Chorus:

Come unto Jesus.

Come unto Jesus.

Lay down your burdens, He is enough.

Come unto Jesus, rest in His love.

Come, taste the Bread of Life, broken for sinners.

Drink from the cup of His promise made sure.

Feast at His table as sons and as daughters.

Grace overflowing is yours evermore. [Chorus]

Come, now and follow Him, this life forsaking.

All that was gain, count as nothing but loss.

Trade all this world for His kingdom unfading.

Come unto Jesus, take up your cross.

Come unto Jesus, take up your cross.

Life everlasting He offers to us. [Chorus]

PRAYER OF THE CHURCH   Elder Mike Ewing

Psalm 119:73-80   "Your Hands Created and Established Me”

Your hands created and established me.

Give understanding; Your commands I’ll learn.

May those who fear You see me and be glad

When they have seen how to Your word I turn.

O LORD, I know how right Your judgments are;

In faithfulness You have afflicted me.

As to Your servant You once gave Your word,

May Your unfailing love my comfort be.

Let Your compassion come to give me life,

For in Your law my joy is very great.

Shamed be the proud who wrong me with their lies;

But on Your precepts I will meditate.

May all of those who fear You turn to me,

Those who Your testimonies know and claim.

May my heart keep Your statutes blamelessly

So that I never may be put to shame.

GOD’S WORD READ   Luke 19:1-10

GOD’S WORD PREACHED.   ““The Two Seekers” by Rev. David Billingslea, RUFI, UCSD

Prayer Of Application & The Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.  Amen.

Hymnal #420   “At the Lamb's High Feast We Sing”

At the Lamb's high feast we sing

praise to our victorious King,

who has washed us in the tide

flowing from his pierced side;

praise we him whose love divine

gives his sacred blood for wine,

gives his body for the feast,

Christ the victim, Christ the priest.

Where the paschal blood is poured,

death's dark angel sheathes his sword;

Israel's hosts triumphant go

through the wave that drowns the foe.

Praise we Christ, whose blood was shed,

paschal victim, paschal bread;

with sincerity and love

eat we manna from above.

Mighty victim from the sky,

pow'rs of hell beneath thee lie;

death is conquered in the fight,

thou hast brought us life and light:

hymns of glory and of praise,

risen Lord, to thee we raise;

holy Father, praise to thee,

with the Spirit, ever be.

Hymnal p. 845   “Apostles’ Creed”

Minister: Christian, what do you believe?

All:  I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
