Jim grew up in a Christian home in Southeast Iowa. He met his wife Trish at Geneva College in Beaver Falls, PA, where he graduated in 1987 with a degree in Biblical Studies. After he and Trish were married they moved to Escondido, CA where Jim attended Westminster Theological Seminary in order to pursue a calling to the pastoral ministry.
After graduating, Jim served as an associate pastor at New Life OPC in San Diego before he and Trish returned to the Midwest.
Jim moved his family to Illinois in the fall of 1997 to begin working with Grace OPC in Elburn, IL just as it was being established as a congregation. Jim served as Pastor of Grace OPC for 29 years.
Jim returned to San Diego and New Life in August 2026 to serve as Assistant Pastor.
Jim and Trish have four grown children and are excited about this new chapter of their lives at New Life Presbyterian Church of La Mesa. In addition to his love for pastoring and his family, Jim enjoys reading, movies, baseball and rooting the Iowa Hawkeyes.
