Sermon Text: Acts 1:6-8
Sermon Title: “A Promised Worldwide Movement”
Pastor Joel E. Wood

May 7, Worship Outline
Morning Liturgy

Welcome and Announcements

Introit: “Be Ye Glad”

In these days of confused situations,
In this night of a restless remorse
When the heart and the soul of a nation
Lay wounded and cold as a corpse
From the grave of the innocent Adam
Comes a song bringing joy to the sad
Oh, your cry has been heard and the ransom
Has been paid up in full, be ye glad

CHORUS: Oh be ye glad, oh be ye glad
Every debt that you've ever had
Has been paid up in full by the grace of the Lord
Be ye glad, be ye glad, be ye glad

Now from your dungeon, a rumor is stirring,
And your eyes show the sorrow they’ve had;
Ah, but this time the cell keys they’re turning,
He has opened the gates, be ye glad. [Chorus]

So be like lights on the rim of the water
Giving hope in a storm sea of night
Be a refuge amidst the slaughter
Of these fugitives in their flight
For you are timeless and part of a puzzle
You are winsome and young as a lad
And there is no disease or no struggle
That can pull you from God [Chorus]

Call to Worship: Psalm 47:1-2, 6-7

Minister: Clap your hands, all peoples! Shout to God with loud songs of joy!
People: For the Lord, the Most High, is to be feared, a great king over all the earth.
Minister: Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises!
People: For God is the King of all the earth;
All: Sing praises with a psalm!

Psalm 98:  “O Sing a New Song to the Lord” (Tune: Trinity Hymnal #271)

O sing a new song to the LORD
For wonders He has done;
For wonders He has done;
By His right hand and holy arm
[Men] He victory has won. [Women echo]
[Men] He victory has won. [Women echo]
[Men] He victory has won. [Women echo]

The LORD’s salvation is revealed
For He has made it known;
For He has made it known;
He to the nations of the world
[Men] His righteousness has shown. [Women echo]
 [Men] His righteousness has shown. [Women echo]
[Men] His righteousness has shown. [Women echo]

He called to mind His faithfulness,
His love to Isr’el’s house;
His love to Isr’el’s house;
The great salvation of our God
[Men] Is seen the earth throughout. [Women echo]
[Men] Is seen the earth throughout. [Women echo]
[Men] Is seen the earth throughout. [Women echo]

O all the earth, shout to the LORD,
And make a joyful sound.
And make a joyful sound.
Lift up your voice aloud to Him;
[Men] Sing praise, let joy resound. [Women echo]
[Men] Sing praise, let joy resound. [Women echo]
[Men] Sing praise, let joy resound. [Women echo]

Make music to the LORD with harps;
With harps your praises sing,
With harps your praises sing,
With horn and trumpets shout with joy
[Men] Before, the LORD, the King. [Women echo]
[Men] Before, the LORD, the King. [Women echo]
[Men] Before, the LORD, the King. [Women echo]

Let sea and land and all they hold
Resound with one accord.
Resound with one accord.
Let rivers clap, let mountains sing
[Men] For joy before the LORD. [Women echo]
[Men] For joy before the LORD. [Women echo]
[Men] For joy before the LORD. [Women echo]

For He shall come, He surely comes
The judge of earth to be;
The judge of earth to be;
He’ll judge the world with righteousness,
[Men] And all with equity. [Women echo]
[Men] And all with equity. [Women echo]
[Men] And all with equity. [Women echo]

Prayer of Invocation

Reflection on God’s Law

Minister: You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.
People: This is the great and first commandment. (Matt. 22:37-38)
Minister: God spoke all these words, saying, "I am the Lord your God. You shall have no other gods before me."
People: For although there may be so-called "gods" in heaven or on earth… yet for us there is one God. (1 Cor. 8:5-6)
Minister: You shall not make for yourself an idol.
People: What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God. (2 Cor. 6:16)
Minister: You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.
People: Let your "yes" be yes and your "no" be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation. (Jam. 5:12)
Minister: Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
People: There remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. (Heb. 4:9-10)

Confession of Sin
Assurance of Grace: Micah 7:19
Trinity Hymnal #735: “Gloria Patri”

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost;
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be,
World without end. Amen. Amen.

Prayer of the Church: Elder Miguel Riveron

Hymn: “Speak, O Lord”

Speak O Lord as we come to You
To receive the food of Your holy word
Take Your truth plant it deep in us
Shape and fashion us in Your likeness
That the light of Christ might be seen today
In our acts of love and our deeds of faith
Speak O Lord and fulfill in us
All Your purposes for Your glory

Teach us Lord full obedience
Holy reverence true humility
Test our thoughts and our attitudes
In the radiance of Your purity
Cause our faith to rise
Cause our eyes to see
Your majestic love and authority
Words of power that can never fail
Let their truth prevail over unbelief

Speak O Lord and renew our minds
Help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us
Truths unchanged from the dawn of time
That will echo down through eternity
And by grace we'll stand on Your promises
And by faith we'll walk as You walk with us
Speak O Lord till Your church is built
And the earth is filled with Your glory

Reading of Sermon Text: Acts 1:6-8
Sermon: “A Promised Worldwide Movement” by Pastor Joel E. Wood
Prayer of Application and the Lord’s Prayer
All: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen.
Trinity Hymnal #246: “Man of Sorrows! What a Name

Man of Sorrows! what a name
for the Son of God, who came
ruined sinners to reclaim:
Hallelujah! what a Savior!

Bearing shame and scoffing rude,
in my place condemned he stood,
sealed my pardon with his blood:
Hallelujah! what a Savior!

Guilty, vile, and helpless, we;
spotless Lamb of God was he;
full atonement! can it be?
Hallelujah! what a Savior!

Lifted up was he to die,
"It is finished!" was his cry:
now in heav'n exalted high:
Hallelujah! what a Savior!

When he comes, our glorious King,
all his ransomed home to bring,
then anew this song we'll sing:
Hallelujah! what a Savior!

Trinity Hymnal p. 845 “Apostles Creed”

Minister: Christian, what do you believe?
All:  I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
