Choral Introit   “God’s Gift It Is to Eat and Drink”
God’s gift it is to eat and drink, to find true joy in labor.
No matter what someone may think, what God does lasts forever.

Refrain:
God’s providence is good and wise: God holds together all our lives.

In days of glad prosperity give thanks that God enfolds you.
In days of hard adversity, remember, God still holds you. [Refrain]

Our daily deeds are in God’s hands, their outcome on the morrow.
At times God overrules our plans to teach us trust through sorrow. [Refrain]
Text: based on Ecclesiastes 3:13-15; 7:14, vers.

GREETING AND CALL TO WORSHIP   Psalm 112:1–2
Leader: Praise the Lord!
People: Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in his commandments!

Leader: His offspring will be mighty in the land.
All: The generation of the upright will be blessed.

PRAYER OF ADORATION, ASSISTANCE, AND BLESSING
Hymnal #421   “Soul, Adorn Yourself with Gladness”
Soul, adorn yourself with gladness,
leave the gloomy haunts of sadness,
come into the daylight's splendor,
there with joy your praises render.
Bless the One whose grace unbounded
this amazing banquet founded;
he, though heav'nly, high, and holy,
deigns to dwell with you most lowly.

Hasten as a bride to meet him,
eagerly and gladly greet him.
There he stands already knocking;
quickly, now, your gate unlocking,
open wide the fast-closed portal,
saying to the Lord immortal:
"Come, and leave your loved one never;
dwell within my heart forever."

Now in faith I humbly ponder
over this surpassing wonder
that the bread of life is boundless
though the souls it feeds are countless;
with the choicest wine of heaven
Christ's own blood to us is given.
Oh, most glorious consolation,
pledge and seal of my salvation.

Jesus, source of lasting pleasure,
truest friend and dearest treasure,
peace beyond all understanding,
joy into all life expanding:
humbly now, I bow before you,
love incarnate, I adore you;
worthily let me receive you,
and, so favored, never leave you.

REFLECTION ON GOD’S LAW
Leader: The Eighth Commandment is: You shall not steal. (Exodus 20:15)
People: He has told you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, and to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8)

Leader: Pay to all what is owed to them:
People: Taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed. (Romans 13:7)

SILENT PRAYER OF CONFESSION
ASSURANCE OF GRACE   Isaiah 1:18

Song   “We Will Feast in the House of Zion”
Chorus:
We will feast in the house of Zion.
We will sing with our hearts restored.
He has done great things, we will say together.
We will feast and weep no more.

We will not be burned by the fire;
He is the Lord, our God.
We are not consumed by the flood;
Upheld, protected, gathered up. [Chorus]

In the dark of night, before the dawn,
My soul, be not afraid.
For the promised morning, oh, how long?
Oh, God of Jacob, be my strength. [Chorus]

Ev’ry vow we’ve broken and betrayed,
You are the faithful one.
And from the garden to the grave,
Bind us together, bring shalom. [Chorus]

PRAYER OF THE CHURCH.   Assistant Pastor Jim Megchelsen

Psalm 25:16-22   “Be Gracious, Turn to Me”
Be gracious, turn to me,
Desolate and oppressed.
The troubles of my heart have grown;
Relieve me from distress.

Look on my grief and pain,
Forgiving all my sin.
See how my enemies increase,
How fierce their hate has been.

Guard and protect my life;
Save and deliver me!
O let me not be put to shame,
In You my trust will be.

Since I upon You wait
Let truth and right defend.
Redemption, God, for Israel
From all his troubles send.

GOD’S WORD READ   I John 2:1-11
GOD’S WORD PREACHED.   “Life in the Light” by Assistant Pastor Jim Megchelsen

Prayer of Application and the Lord’s Prayer
All: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.  Amen.

Hymnal #424   “Shepherd of Souls, Refresh and Bless”
Shepherd of souls, refresh and bless
your chosen pilgrim flock
with manna in the wilderness,
with water from the rock.

Hungry and thirsty, faint and weak,
as you when here below,
our souls the joys celestial seek
which from your sorrows flow.

We would not live by bread alone,
but by that Word of grace,
in strength of which we travel on
to our abiding place.

Be known to us in breaking bread,
but do not then depart;
Savior, abide with us, and spread
your table in our heart.

There sup with us in love divine;
your body and your blood,
that living bread, that heav'nly wine,
be our immortal food.

Hymnal p. 845   “Apostles’ Creed”
Minister: Christian, what do you believe?
All:  I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPER

Words of Institution and Warning

People: And also with you.

Minister: Lift up your hearts;
People: We lift them up to the Lord.

Minister: Let us give thanks to the Lord our God;
People: It is right to give him thanks and praise.
