Welcome and Announcements

GREETING AND CALL TO WORSHIP   Psalm 117:1–2
Leader: Praise the LORD, all nations!  Extol him, all peoples!
People: For great is his steadfast love toward us, and the faithfulness of the LORD endures forever.

All: Praise the LORD!

PRAYER OF ADORATION, ASSISTANCE, AND BLESSING

Hymnal #295   “Crown Him With Many Crowns”
Crown him with many crowns,
the Lamb upon his throne;
hark! how the heav'nly anthem drowns
all music but its own:
awake, my soul, and sing
of him who died for thee,
and hail him as thy matchless King
through all eternity.

Crown him the Lord of love;
behold his hands and side,
rich wounds, yet visible above,
in beauty glorified:
no angel in the sky
can fully bear that sight,
but downward bends his burning eye
at mysteries so bright.

Crown him the Lord of peace;
whose pow'r a scepter sways
from pole to pole, that wars may cease,
absorbed in prayer and praise:
his reign shall know no end;
and round his pierced feet
fair flow'rs of paradise extend
their fragrance ever sweet.

Crown him the Lord of years,
the Potentate of time;
Creator of the rolling spheres,
ineffably sublime:
all hail, Redeemer, hail!
for thou hast died for me:
thy praise shall never, never fail
throughout eternity.

REFLECTION ON GOD’S LAW
Leader: The sum of the four commandments, which contain our duty to God, is:
People: To love the Lord our God with all our heart, and with all our soul, and with all our strength, and with all our mind. (cf. Larger Catechism 102, Luke 10:27)

Leader: As Jesus told Satan:
People: You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve. (Matt. 4:10)

SILENT PRAYER OF CONFESSION
ASSURANCE OF GRACE   Psalm 32:1–2

Hymnal #565   “All for Jesus!”
All for Jesus! All for Jesus!
All my being’s ransomed pow'rs:
all my thoughts and words and doings,
all my days and all my hours.

Let my hands perform his bidding,
let my feet run in his ways;
let my eyes see Jesus only,
let my lips speak forth his praise.

Worldlings prize their gems of beauty,
cling to gilded toys of dust,
boast of wealth and fame and pleasure;
only Jesus will I trust.

Since my eyes were fixed on Jesus,
I’ve lost sight of all beside;
so enchained my spirit’s vision,
looking at the Crucified.

O what wonder! how amazing!
Jesus, glorious King of kings,
deigns to call me his beloved,
lets me rest beneath His wings.

PRAYER OF THE CHURCH.   Elder Dean Abbott

Psalm 51:9-19   “From My Sins, O Hide Your Face”
From my sins, O hide Your face;
My iniquities erase.
O my God, renew my heart,
And a spirit right impart.
Cast me not from You, I pray;
Nor Your Holy Spirit take.

Give salvation’s joy again,
And a willing mind sustain.
Then Your perfect ways I’ll show
That transgressors may them know;
Sinners are converted then,
Turning back to You again.

From bloodguiltiness, O God
Set me free, my Savior, God.
Then my tongue will joy express,
Singing of Your righteousness.
Open now my lips, O Lord;
From my mouth will praise be poured.

Sacrifice You will not take,
Or the off’ring I would make.
Off’rings burnt bring no delight,
But a broken heart, contrite,
God’s accepted sacrifice,
You, O God, will not despise.

Prosper Zion in Your grace;
Build Jerus’lem’s walls in place.
Then will sacrifices right,
Off’rings burnt bring You delight;
Then will men, their vows to pay,
Bulls upon Your altar lay.

GOD’S WORD READ   Acts 21:27-36
GOD’S WORD PREACHED.   “Another Uproar” by Pastor Joel E. Wood

Prayer of Application and the Lord’s Prayer
All: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.  Amen.

Song  "How Deep the Father's Love for Us”
How deep the Father's love for us,
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure.
How great the pain of searing loss.
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the Chosen One
Bring many sons to glory.

Behold the Man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders.
Ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
Call out among the scoffers.
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished;
His dying breath has brought me life.
I know that it is finished.

I will not boast in anything:
No gifts ,no pow’r, no wisdom.
But I will boast in Jesus Christ:
His death and resurrection.
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer.
But this I know with all my heart:
His wounds have paid my ransom.

Hymnal p. 845   “Apostles’ Creed”
Minister: Christian, what do you believe?
All:  I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; he descended into hell. The third day he rose again from the dead. He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

SACRAMENT OF THE LORD’S SUPPER
