Sermon Title: A Quick & Eternal Reminder”

Sermon Text: : 1 Timothy 6:17-19

Worship Guide: Morning Worship Guide

Welcome and Announcements Prelude

Choral Introit: “We Belong to God Alone” Words: Nicolaus L. Von Zinzendorf (1700-1769); trans. composite
Tune: O DU LIEBE MEINER LIEBE; Herrnhut, 1735 Arranged by Dale Grotenhuis

Christian hearts in love united, search to know God’s holy will.
Let His love, in us ignited, more and more our spirits fill.

Christ, the head and we His members; we reflect the light He is.
Christ, the master, we disciples; He is ours and we are His.

Grant, Lord, that with Your direction, “Love each other,” we comply.
Help us live in true affection, Your love to exemplify.

Let our mutual love be glowing brightly so that all may view
That we, as on one stem growing, living branches are in You.

Come, then, living church of Jesus, covenant with Him anew.
Unto Him who conquered for us may we pledge our service true.

May our lives reflect the brightness of God’s love in Jesus shown.
To the world we then bear witness: we belong to God alone.

Call to Worship: Matthew 11:28-29 Minister: Come to me, all who labor and are

heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

People: Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Minister: For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.

All: Praise be to God!
Hymnal #119 “I Sing the Almighty Power of God”

I sing th'almighty pow'r of God
that made the mountains rise,
that spread the flowing seas abroad, and built the lofty skies.
I sing the wisdom that ordained
the sun to rule the day;
the moon shines full at his command and all the stars obey.

I sing the goodness of the Lord
that filled the earth with food;
he formed the creatures with his word, and then pronounced them good. Lord, how your wonders are displayed where'er I turn mine eye,
if I survey the ground I tread
or gaze upon the sky!

There's not a plant or flow'r below but makes your glories known;
and clouds arise and tempests blow, by order from your throne;

while all that borrows life from you is ever in your care,
and everywhere that man can be, you, God, are present there.

Prayer of Invocation and the Lord’s Prayer

Matthew 6:9-13 (ESV)

Confession of Sin Prayer for Pardon

All: Gracious God, wash us and make us clean, put away all our evil doings from before your eyes. Let us forsake our wicked ways, and return to you, that you may have mercy upon us, for all who come and truly repent you will not turn away. Forgive us we pray for Christ is our only hope in life and in death. Help us to live in light of the gospel, for we pray in the confidence of Christ Jesus. Amen.

Assurance of Grace: Galatians 2:20

I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Hymnal #735 “Gloria Patri” Offertory: 1 Peter 4:10

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace.

Prayer of the Church: Elder Curt Goodhart Scripture Reading: Nehemiah 2:9-20

Hymnal #469 “How Sweet and Awesome Is the Place”

How sweet and awesome is the place with Christ within the doors,
while everlasting love displays
the choicest of her stores.

While all our hearts and all our songs join to admire the feast,
each of us cries, with thankful tongue, "Lord, why was I a guest?

"Why was I made to hear your voice,
and enter while there's room,
when thousands make a wretched choice, and rather starve than come?"

'Twas the same love that spread the feast that sweetly drew us in;
else we had still refused to taste,
and perished in our sin.

Pity the nations, O our God, constrain the earth to come;
send your victorious Word abroad, and bring the strangers home.

We long to see your churches full,
that all the chosen race
may, with one voice and heart and soul, sing your redeeming grace.

Reading of Sermon Scripture: 1 Timothy 6:17-19 Sermon: “A Quick & Eternal Reminder”

by Pastor Joel E. Wood

Hymnal #257 “Stricken, Smitten, and Afflicted”

Stricken, smitten, and afflicted, see him dying on the tree!
'Tis the Christ by man rejected; yes, my soul, 'tis he, 'tis he!

'Tis the long-expected Prophet, David's Son, yet David's Lord;
by his Son God now has spoken: 'tis the true and faithful Word.

Tell me, ye who hear him groaning, was there ever grief like his?
Friends thro' fear his cause disowning, foes insulting his distress;

many hands were raised to wound him, none would interpose to save;
but the deepest stroke that pierced him was the stroke that Justice gave.

Ye who think of sin but lightly nor suppose the evil great

here may view its nature rightly, here its guilt may estimate.
Mark the sacrifice appointed,
see who bears the awful load;
'tis the Word, the Lord's Anointed, Son of Man and Son of God.

Here we have a firm foundation, here the refuge of the lost;
Christ's the Rock of our salvation, his the name of which we boast. Lamb of God, for sinners wounded, sacrifice to cancel guilt!
None shall ever be confounded who on him their hope have built.
