Welcome and Announcements

Choral Introit

Call to Worship - 134:1-2
Minister: Come, bless the Lord, all you servants of the Lord, who stand by night in the house of
the Lord! Lift up your hands to the holy place and bless the Lord!
Prayer of Invocation

Trinity Hymnal #119 – “I Sing the Almighty Power of God”

I sing th'almighty pow'r of God
that made the mountains rise,
that spread the flowing seas abroad,
and built the lofty skies.
I sing the wisdom that ordained
the sun to rule the day;
the moon shines full at his command
and all the stars obey.

I sing the goodness of the Lord
that filled the earth with food;
he formed the creatures with his word,
and then pronounced them good.
Lord, how your wonders are displayed
where'er I turn mine eye,
if I survey the ground I tread
or gaze upon the sky!

There's not a plant or flow'r below
but makes your glories known;
and clouds arise and tempests blow,
by order from your throne;
while all that borrows life from you
is ever in your care,
and everywhere that man can be,
you, God, are present there.

Reflection on the Law

Minister: Honor your father and your mother.
People: Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. (Eph 6:1)

Minister: You shall not murder.
People: Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has
eternal life abiding in him. (  3:15)

Minister: You shall not commit adultery.
People: Everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery
with her in his heart. (Mt 5:28)

Minister: You shall not steal.
People: If anyone is not willing to work, let him not eat. Do your work quietly and earn
your own living. (2 Th 3:10,12)

Minister: You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.
People: Having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor.
(Eph 4:25)

Minister: You shall not covet anything that is your neighbor's.
People: For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as
yourself” (Gal 5:14)

Confession of Sin
Assurance of Grace   1 Peter 1:13

Trinity Hymnal #132 “O Rejoice in the Lord”

God never moves without purpose or plan
When trying his servant and molding man.
Give thanks to the Lord,
Though the testing seems long;
In darkness he gives us a song.

O rejoice in the Lord.
He makes no mistake.
He knows the end of each path that I take.
For when I am tried and purified,
I shall come forth as gold.

I could not see through the shadows ahead;
So, I looked at the cross of my Savior instead.
I bowed to the will of the Master that day;
Then peace came and tears fled away.

O rejoice in the Lord.
He makes no mistake.
He knows the end of each path that I take.
For when I am tried and purified,
I shall come forth as gold.

Now I can see testing comes from above;
God strengthens his children and purges in love.
My Father knows best, and I trust in his care;
Through purging more fruit I will bear.

O rejoice in the Lord.
He makes no mistake.
He knows the end of each path that I take.
For when I am tried and purified,
I shall come forth as gold.

Prayer of the Church – Pastor M. Connor Underseth
Sacrament of Baptism
Psalm of Preparation  “I’ll Give You Praise, My God, O King” [tune: Trinity Hymnal #441]

I’ll give You praise, my God, O King,
I will forever bless Your name;
I will extol You every day,
And evermore Your praise proclaim.

Great is the LORD, deserving praise;
His greatness none can comprehend.
One generation to the next
Will all Your mighty works commend.

I’ll contemplate Your wondrous works,
Your splendor and Your glory great.
Men will declare Your awesome acts;
Your pow’r and greatness I’ll relate.

Calling to mind Your goodness great,
Its fame they eagerly express;
And they sing praises joyfully,
Telling of all Your righteousness.

Reading of Sermon Scripture: James 1:22-25
Sermon - “Do the Word” by Pastor M. Connor Underseth
Prayer of Application and the Lord’s Prayer

All: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.
For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever.  Amen.

Trinity Hymnal #263 “Lift High the Cross”

Refrain:
Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim,
till all the world adore his sacred name.

Come, brethren, follow where our Savior trod,
our King victorious, Christ, the Son of God. [Refrain]

Led on their way by this triumphant sign,
the hosts of God in conqu'ring ranks combine. [Refrain]

O Lord, once lifted on the glorious tree,
as thou hast promised, draw men unto thee. [Refrain]

Thy kingdom come, that earth's despair may cease
beneath the shadow of its healing peace. [Refrain]

For thy blest cross which doth for us atone,
creation's praises rise before thy throne. [Refrain]

“Apostles Creed” Trinity Hymnal p. 845

Minister: Christian, what do you believe?
All:  I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,  and born of the virgin Mary. ‍
He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended into hell.
The third day he rose again from the dead.
He ascended into Heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting.
Amen.

Song of Praise “Trees of the Field”

You shall go out with joy
And be led forth with peace
The mountains and the hills
Will break forth before you
There'll be shouts of joy
And all the trees of the field
Will clap will clap their hands

And all the trees of the field
Will clap their hands
The trees of the field
Will clap their hands
The trees of the field
Will clap their hands
While you go out with joy
