New Life History
On Sunday April 25th, 1965, New Life Orthodox Presbyterian church celebrated its first worship service in Point Loma led by founding pastor, Ed Kellogg. He served the church from 1965 through 1977.
On January 1st, 1978 Pastor George Miladin became the second pastor and led the church for 27 years, both in Point Loma and in our new location in La Mesa. On September 30th 2005 our third and current Pastor, Brian Tallman was installed.
New Life was started as an Orthodox Presbyterian Church and remained that from 1967-2004. In 2004 New Life transferred its membership from the OPC into the Presbyterian Church in America.
For nearly 30 years our congregation rented a Seventh-Day Adventist Church building in Point Loma for our worship services. By the mid 80's we had outgrown the rented facility and felt the need to relocate. We began to pray that God would provide a facility that would be the right "fit" for our needs. Our prayers were answered in the form of a derelict building near the intersection of Interstate 8 and Lake Murray Blvd.
The twenty-five year old building had originally housed an ice skating rink and later, medical offices. It had been abandoned for nearly 12 years and was a hideout for the homeless and blight to the neighborhood. God provided for the need to purchase the property and to turn it into something beautiful and useful. We are grateful to God for his great and indescribable provision for us.
